Want to become a NIKIA Apprentice?

Tell us a little bit about yourself. We'll look at your application and contact you if we see a fit to move forward. From there, you'll be interviewed, undergo a background check, and be enrolled in our 6 month apprentice program.

The Program

NIKIA has created a pathway for hairstylists with less than 3 years of industry experience to gain more education, client experience, and portfolio building in order to grow in the freelance world of the beauty industry. The NIKIA Apprentice Program is perfect for stylists who have just graduated from beauty school, or who are looking to up their self taught skills.

The program is a 6 month commitment. At the conclusion of the program NIKIA may extend a full stylist contract to come on board as a freelance stylist with the company.

The Class

During your 6 months as an Apprentice, you will need to take the New To The Industry class taught by Nikia.

Apprentice Program F.A.Q.

Q: Where will the class take place and how long are they?

A: Classes can be held in person or via zoom. They will be held weekly and will be scheduled for 2 hours. A live model or mannequin head will be required for each class.

Q: Are there professional experience requirements?

A: No. However we do recommend having a baseline of experience. Self-taught or a recent beauty school graduate.

Q: Do I need insurance?

A: Yes. NIKIA stylists (Apprentice or otherwise) are all insured for liability in the event an accident were to happen. We are a mobile hairstyling company, operating in other people's homes, work spaces, or venues.

Q: Do I need to have a portfolio?

A: No. One of the benefits of the NIKIA Apprentice program is that we will provide you with opportunities to build a portfolio.

Q; Do I need to own a car?

A: No. Our clients are "on-location", as will you be. Having a secured and reliable form of getting from point A to point B is required. Acceptable modes of transportation are your own car, Uber or Lyft.

Q: Do I have to sign a contract?

A: Yes. NIKIA apprentices represent our brand. By enrolling in the NIKIA apprentice program you agree to complete the apprentice program requirements, maintain a google calendar for accuracy, wear the NIKIA branded T-shirt to all appointments and to refrain from cross-promotion of your (or other businesses) while working with NIKIA clients. You are contracted as an Independent Contractor and paid by the job.

Q: Do I have to supply my own kit?

A: Yes. However should you need to start your kit, we will be able to assist you with a list of entry-level products and tools needed to get started.

Q: Will you do a background check on me?

A: Yes. Our customers' privacy and safety is very important to us, as well as the safety of our artists. We will not knowingly send a convicted criminal or individual with a background of abuse, arrests, or other misdemeanors into our client's homes. If you are unwilling to have a background check processed or are unsure about its outcome, a partnership with NIKIA may not be the right fit for either party.
